Project Summary

After several of CA’s digital products went through a rebrand in early 2024, I tasked with rebranding the CA Live design system for iOS (mobile & tablet) and Android. The design system rebrand required changes to the following areas:

• Typography and Colour Palettes
• Spacing and layout
• Library of patterns and variants
• Documented designs
• New dark mode for iOS and Android mobile

The design system was built with updated Figma features and in line in the recent Material Design and Apple Design guidelines.

Challenges throughout the rebuild of the design system included:

• Reducing the number of fonts and colours used across the app
• Ensuring consistency between cricket.com.au and Cricket Australia brand guidelines
• Working between iOS mobile and tablet
• Communicating changes to iOS and Android developers
• Ensuring WCAG accessibility
• Adapting the system to key new series, e.g. The Ashes 2023 Men’s & Women’s series and Australia vs India series in late 2024.

The changes to the app enabled smooth wireframing for several minor and major changes to the CA Live in late 2024 including:

• Introduction of vertical full-page video.
• Designing of the home screen with a new For You section, allowing users to deeper personalise the app.
• Designing of the match centre for new Form Guide, Live Blog and AI Chatbot features.

Some of these key changes to the design system are displayed in Figure 1 for Android, iOS (Mobile & tablet).
